Comets beat FC in tennis

Franklin County has emerged as a major rival for the HCHS sports’ programs, so it’s always significant when the Comets get a win against the Eagles. The Comets boys’ tennis team edged Franklin County, 5-4, in Western Valley district action Tuesday.

Boys first, girls second in tri-meet

The HCMS boys won a track tri-meet last Thursday, while the Lion girls placed second. The Lion boys won the meet with 55 points, defeating Powhatan and Park View. The HCMS girls were second, finishing with 26 points. Powhatan won the girls’ meet with 90 points.

UNC takes fifth title

North Carolina earned its fifth national title with six straight double figure wins in the NCAA tournament, with all of the team’s strengths clicking for the Tar Heels. Carolina, often criticized during the season a lack of focus on the defensive side of the ball, played lockdown defense in the NCAA tournament, including Monday’s win over Michigan State. In six NCAA tournament games, UNC allowed its opponents to shoot just 38.5 percent from the field, and 26.7 percent from three-point range. Meanwhile, four Tar Heels finished with double figure scoring.
