Motorsports Academy

For the 2009 racing season, George Spencer returns as the driver for the Virginia Farm Bureau Comet Racing Team. This is George’s second season with Halifax County Public Schools Motorsports Racing Team. Under the leadership of Doug Newcomb and Danny Wilborn the focus will not only be on improving the sixth place finish from last season, but also training the team members to be more specialized in the various jobs of being on a pit crew. As part of their sponsorship package, Virginia Farm Bureau has purchased fourteen NASCAR licenses for those students selected to be on the pit crew team. Each member of the pit crew is expected to learn each job responsibility and then work toward specializing in one of the positions. The team will be lead by Brent Younger, the crew chief. Younger is a junior at the Halifax County High School who has been a part of the pit crew for the past two seasons. Through his dedication and leadership skills, the coaches selected to groom Younger to be the crew chief on and off the track.
