Cunningham qualifies for state golf tournament

The Comets’ JD Cunningham will move on to the VHSL State Championships after posting a 72 on Friday in the Region 4 finals. Blacksburg won the round with a combined score of 294. Halifax and EC Glass tied for third place at 323. Halifax’s Will Long shot an 80; Zac Rhodes finished with an 85. Jaxon Lloyd and Jackson Newton shot 86 and 87, respectively. Peyton Wallance finished with a 90 for the Comets.

Nichols a good fit

Elmer Nichols is a very popular choice to enter the Halifax County-South Boston Sports Hall of Fame after a highly successful and lengthy athletic career in two sports, golf and bowling. “I feel very honored,” said Nichols, who added, “to be recognized in the Hall of Fame … is great for me.”

Spring sports weathers winter weather

The Comet varsity baseball and softball and other spring sports teams saw their practice schedules interrupted by the winter blast earlier this week. Tomorrow's scheduled varsity scrimmage for softball and tennis have been postponed. Tennis will have its scrimmage at R-H on March 10, and softball will scrimmage at R-H on March 13. There are no updates on the varsity baseball scrimmage schedule. (David Conner II photos)
