Ferrell prepares for senior season at UAB

Former Comet Mark Ferrell is progressing through spring football at the University of Alabama-Birmingham with the goal of enjoying an impact fall. Ferrell, who came to UAB after a strong career at the junior college level, is involved in his first spring practice period for the Blazers. He has devoted extra attention in the offseason to improve all aspects of his game. “The key thing for me, to keep my starting position and to make it to the big leagues, is to work hard,” said Ferrell, who is projected at no. 1 at his position for the Blazers.

Martin inducted into CIAA Hall of Fame

Bristol Martin, a longtime local game official who started his career in the South Boston Recreation league, is a Hall of Famer now. Martin recently was honored with induction to the CIAA Officials Hall of Fame. The 2009 induction banquet and ceremonies were held in Charlotte in late February.

It was appropriate, then, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the most successful high school varsity baseball team in Comet history last Friday before the start of the HCHS-Loyalsock game.
