Bane, Barnes earn all-state softball honors

Two Comets, senior second baseman Meg Bane and freshman pitcher Taylor Barnes, were named as honorable mention selections for the 2013 all-state softball team announced by the Virginia High School coaches association.

Both helped the Comets finish a remarkable season, when Halifax County High School came within one frustrating loss to Osbourn of making the state tournament.

Bane is headed to Virginia, after a glittering career as a student-athlete at HCHS. She won recognition as the top female athlete at Halifax County.

Barnes is expected to be back for softball next spring, and should be one of the key returnees for Comet coach Melanie Saunders.
