Baron girls sweep district rivals in volleyball action
SoVaNow.com / September 26, 2012The Bluestone varsity girls scored a sweep over James River District rivals Cumberland and Amelia in volleyball action last week.
The pair of wins raised the Lady Barons’ district record to 3-0, leading up to the girls’ match at Central of Lunenburg on Monday.
Playing Cumberland last Monday, the Baron girls dropped the first game 19-25, but came back to win the next three, 25-14, 25-17 and 25-9.
Leading the charge for Bluestone were Carmen Sturdifen with three aces, seven kills and 19 digs, Kelsey Pruett with seven kills, Bridget Bass with 22 digs, Anahi Trujillo with 21 digs, and Jessi Covington with 100 assists.
On Wednesday, the Lady Barons took on Amelia and once again prevailed three games to one in a closely-fought match throughout. The girls won the first game, 25-16, but the Lady Raiders came back to take the second game, 24-26. Bluestone responded by winning games three and four, 25-14 and 25-20, respectively.
The stats from the Amelia match are as follows:

The Lady Barons will be in action this week as they continue to work their way through the district schedule. In addition to the away match with Central on Monday, the girls are scheduled to play Randolph-Henry today (Wednesday) at home.
