Bluestone golf competed in the Region 2A tournament this week, placing fourth in a 10-team field with a score of 381.

Earning a trip to the VHSL Class 2A State golf tournament for Bluestone was Cameron Shriver. The sophomore was also named to the All-Region team.

Bluestone coach David Allgood said Shriver tied for medalist honors on the day.

“They only took the top two teams to state but they also took three individuals not on the top two teams,” Allgood said. “Cameron Shriver tied for the lowest score of the day and qualified for the state tournament as an individual.”

Shriver (77) and two golfers from Bruton and Prince Edward were the three individuals to qualify.

Shriver will compete for the state championship title on Tuesday, Oct. 12 at Olde Mill Golf Resort in Laurel Fork. First tee time is 9 a.m.

Allgood, whose young team of sophomores and freshmen had not even had a golfer compete at the high school level until this year, said he was proud of the group’s entire season.

Team members are Greyson Arnold, Davis Bowen, Barrett Digh, Tyler Driggs, Thomas Elliott, Emily Morrison, Taylor Seamans, and Shriver.

Team scores: King William 1st, 331; Randolph Henry 2nd, 364, Poquoson 3rd, 365; Bluestone 4th, 381; Nottoway 5th, 390; Bruton 6th, 395; Windsor 7th, 407; Prince Edward 8th, 416; Amelia 9th, 420; Greensville 10th, 421.

Bluestone scores: Cameron Shriver 77, Taylor Seamons 94, Davis Bowen 102, Emily Morrison 114, Tyler Driggs 121, and Barrett Digh 108.
