Baron track team takes part in JRD field event competition / May 10, 2017
On Monday, members of the Bluestone boys and girls track teams competed in five field events in the James River District championship meet at Buckingham County High School. The events were high jump, long jump, triple jump, discus, and shot put. The Barons competed against Amelia, Buckingham, Central Lunenburg, Cumberland, Goochland, Nottoway, Prince Edward, and Randolph-Henry.

Competing for the girls team were senior Aryanna Patrick (HJ, LJ, TJ, S), senior Samantha Bright (D), freshman Ky’leah Walls (S, D) and freshman Alexis Johnson (HJ, LJ, TJ). The girls competed hard but they did not advance to the finals in any of their events.

Competing for the boys team were four seniors: Kenton Barnette (S, D), Tevarius Brooks (HJ, LJ, TJ, and D), Nyer Evans (HJ, LJ) and Maleek Pulliam (S, D). Also competing were junior Patrick Alexander (TJ), junior Roger Dailey (HJ, LJ), and freshman Neil Clayton Jr (S, D).

Unofficial results from the meet were:

1st place in High Jump (Tevarius Brooks) - 10 points

4th place in High Jump (Roger Dailey) - 4 points

5th place in High Jump (Nyier Evans) - 2 points

2nd place in Long Jump (Nyier Evans*) - 8 points

4th place in Long Jump (Tevarius Brooks) - 4 points

3rd place in Triple Jump (Tevarius Brooks*) - 6 points

3rd place in Discus (Maleek Pulliam) - 6 points

6th place in Discus (Neil Clayton Jr.) - 1 point

5th place in Shot Put (Maleek Pulliam) - 2 points

The Bluestone boys took first place in the district field events competition with 43 points.

Both the boys and girls teams will finish the James River District meet today (Wednesday, May 10) at Nottoway High School. Both teams will compete in all the running events: 100 meter, 110 hurdles, 200 meter, 300 hurdles, 400 meter, 800 meter, 1600 meter, 3200 meter, 400 meter relay, 1600 meter relay, and 3200 meter relay.

Since the official results of the May 8 field events have not been posted, state qualifying performances by two Bluestone athletes have not been certified. However, unofficially, Nyier Evans has qualified for the state track meet in Long Jump and Tevarius Brooks has qualified for the state track meet in Triple Jump. This marks the second event that Evans has qualified for the state meet and Brooks’ third event.
