SoVaNow.com / January 31, 2018

On Thursday, the Bluestone Barons wrestling team competed at Amelia for the James River District title and placed third.

Bluestone finished behind only Nottoway and Goochland in the district tournament. The Barons wrestled well, claiming three individual titles and having multiple members of the team place in the tourney.

Michael Driggs won two close back-to-back victories to bring home first place in the 145 weight class.

Dale Sturdifen Jr. (170) showed his dominance in the JRD by claiming two strong victories. Sturdifen pinned his opponent in the first round before picking up a major decision over the No. 1 seed from Randolph-Henry in the finals.

Neil Clayton, as the No. 4 seed, made quick work of the No. 1 seed from Goochland with a pin in the second period. Clayton went on to pin the No. 2 seed in the finals to claim another title for Bluestone in the 220 weight class.

Jaysmne Nunez picked up her first two victories on the season by defeating both Cumberland and Nottoway opponents by pin fall.
