Bruised Comets seek turnaround

Halifax County High School varsity football can still enjoy a positive season, but the Comets will need a turnaround effort at Martinsville Friday.





Bennett, Adams earn first team honors / November 14, 2012
Two Halifax County High School standouts, running back Alonzo Bennett and offensive tackle Seth Adams, led an 11-man HCHS varsity football contingent on the final all-Western Valley district team.

Bennett powered for 1,533 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 8.2 ypg. Adams helped open holes for Bennett and other Comet offensive players.

Both Comet seniors, who hope to play somewhere in college, are eligible for the all-Northwest Region team.

Six Comets earned second team honors. The second team performers include wide receiver Jamal Crews, tight end Tyler Dunn, offensive guard Damien Hunt. The defense produced three second teamers, including lineman Chris Baisch, defensive end Galontre Thaxton and linebacker Tre’ Morgan. Three more Comets, defensive back Rufus Jeffress, kicker Kyle Lacks and punter Jason Dennis earnred honorable mention honors.
