Bluestone ends season 8-8 / May 22, 2019
The Bluestone softball team secured the No. 5 seed going into the VHSL Region 2A softball tournament play and were on tap to host the No. 12 seed, Randolph-Henry Lady, yesterday in Skipwith.

Bluestone finished the season at 8-8 in the James River District and had a record of 10-8. R-H finished their season in eighth place in the JRD, with a record of 2-14, 3-14 overall.

Blueston had an opening season 9-5 win over R-H. In the second half of the season Bluestone took another win, 11-6. The Barons went 4-5 in the first half of the regular season but turned up their play a notch in the second half of the season with a record of 6-3.

For the most part Bluestone has been good in the circle with Katlyn Shanklin and Devin Gregory holding down the mound. Shanklin is a junior.

Seniors Chasitee Baskerville, Hannah Mull and Lydia Williamson have had solid seasons, with Mull and Baskerville providing some timely at bats. Sophomore players Lilly Loftis and Sydney Newcomb have also hit well this season. Freshman Emma Newcomb brings a strong bat to the plate and if freshman Trista Newcomb gets her bat hot, the Lady Barons are going to be a real threat.

They Lady Barons went 1-1 to finish their regular season out with a 20-7 win over Cumberland and a 4-3 loss to Buckingham, which should provide them some good momentum going into the tournament. If Bluestone defeats R-H they will travel to No. 4 seed Maggie Walker on Thursday.
