The Bluestone varsity girls basketball team ended their regular season last Tuesday celebrating Senior Night but losing to James River District rival Goochland, 67-34.

Bluestone finished the season at 4-18, 4-12 JRD, a record good enough to earn the girls a VHSL Region 2A tournament first round match-up with Prince Edward on Friday night in Farmville. First-year head coach April Bullock and her coaching staff have done an excellent job this season taking a varsity team with no wins last year to qualifying for postseason competition this season.

Seniors recognized before the Goochland game were Destiny Pettus, Ja’Terrias Fuller, Katlyn Shanklin, and Ky’Leah Walls.

The visiting Lady Bulldogs got out to a fast start in the game with an 8-0 run. Pettus would give Bluestone its first bucket for the 8-2 score. Pettus led Bluestone on the night with 10 points.

Goochland ran the score out to 22-4 and ended the first period ahead of Bluestone 24-10. Pettus had six points in the frame.

Bluestone was point better in the second period, scoring 11. Goochland kept the offensive pressure up and led at halftime, 42-21.

The Lady Barons lost the third period 22-8 and won the final frame 5-3. Bluestone’s Walls and Fuller had six points each in the Barons’ loss.

Goochland’s Emily Paulin paced all players with 21 points. Gabby Ragone with 13 points and Jalyn Burns with 10 joined Paulin in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs.

Bluestone: D. Pettus 10, X. Tucker 2, K. Walls 6, J. Dailey 6, J. Fuller 2, T. Dennis 4, K. Williams 4.

Goochland: G. Ragone 13, E. Paulin 21, J. Burns 10, T. Whitehead 8, K. Warren 3, L. Yutzey 2, A. Quarles 1.
