Bluestone golf place second in season opener

SoVaNow.com / August 18, 2021
The Bluestone High School golf team hosted Cumberland and Randolph-Henry last week in a nine-hole match at Kinderton Country Club to begin James River District competition.

Bluestone placed second with 187, losing to Randolph-Henry by five strokes, at 182. Cumberland was third with a 240.

Bluestone’s Cameron Shriver was medalist for the match, shooting a 37. Shriver’s score was the only one posted in the 30s.

Taylor Seamans carded a 43, Davis Bowen 53, and Emily Morrison 54 to round out the top four golfers for Bluestone. Tyler Driggs shot a 59.

Coach David Allgood said considering the fact that no one on the team had played at the high school level before, he was pleased with the performance.

“I am very proud of the team because this was the first high school match and Randolph-Henry always has a good team,” Allgood said. “The team was a little nervous at the beginning due to the inexperience. I think this team will get even better as the season goes along and they get more experience.”
