Bluestone golfers finish in tie with Buckingham, fall shy vs. Goochland / September 04, 2019
Bluestone varsity golf had a good week of competition going into the Labor Day holiday, tying for second in one match and dropping a match to Nottoway and Lunenburg.

Bluestone traveled to Hanover to take on Buckingham and Goochland on Thursday at The Hallows Golf Course, posting a team score of 197. Buckingham also carded a team score of 197. Goochland won the match with a score of 175.

Bluestone showed improvement, with each of the top four players posting their best scores to date. Joseph Walker paced Bluestone by carding a 46 and was team medalist.

Harrison Snead shot a 48, Garrett Allgood 50, and Tristan Driggs holed a 53. First-year golfer Xavier Sturdifen also had his best score to date with a 62.

Buckingham’s Matthew Davis and Goochland’s J. Raines each shot a 40 to claim a share of match medalist.

The Barons have one match this week. On Thursday the team is scheduled to travel to Amelia and compete with the host school and Randolph-Henry.

Barons place third in tri-match

Tuesday of last week, Bluestone hosted Nottoway and Lunenburg at Kinderton Country Club and placed third in the match with a team score of 211. Lunenburg won the match carding 175; Nottoway was second with a score of 194.

Bluestone’s Harrison Snead led his team by shooting a 49. Walker, Allgood and Driggs rounded out the top four players with scores of 53, 54 and 55, respectively.

Nottoway’s Jay Carr won match medalist honors by posting a 37. Lunenburg’s Hogen Whitlow shot a 42.
