Bluestone golfers open JRD play tomorrow / August 14, 2019

After a trying 2018 season, the Bluestone Barons varsity golf team is looking for better things on the horizon.

The team has been practicing for the better part of a week now and working to get in competition-ready form. The Barons will have their first test against James River District opposition this week when they travel to Crewe Country Club to take on Amelia County and Nottoway.

Bluestone was in rebuilding mode last season and with one senior on the roster for 2019, will probably be in that same position again this season. First year head coach George Lancaster will lead the team. Glenn Wood will be his assistant coach; Jennifer Williamson will also volunteer as an assistant coach.

The golf squad has three matches scheduled for next week. On Monday, Bluestone golf hosts Randolph-Henry and Cumberland at Kinderton — this match was rescheduled from last week. Tuesday, the team travels to Amelia to take on the host school and Goochland. Golf finishes up the week on Thursday at Kinderton where they will challenge Buckingham and Prince Edward.

The Barons have seven team members this season. Rachel Williamson, Harrison Sneed, and Carter Mull are the team’s freshmen. Garrett Allgood is in his sophomore year; juniors are Tristan Driggs, Junior Captain, and Xavier Studifen. Joseph Walker, senior Co-Captain, rounds out the team.
