Bluestone jayvee girls thump Cougars

SoVaNow.com / January 23, 2013
Kelsey Thornton enjoyed a breakout game with 26 points as the Bluestone jayvee girls fought off a late rally by Nottoway Tuesday night and won, 39-33.

The Baron jayvees girls entered the fourth period holding a 30-19 lead, but Nottoway made it close at the end with a 14-point final period while limiting Bluestone to only nine points.

Thornton helped the Junior Lady Barons’ cause immensely in the third quarter as she scored 14 of Bluestone’s 16 points in the frame. The quarter was a lopsided one for the host Lady Barons as Nottoway mustered only six points to fall far behind.

At halftime, Bluestone led 14-13.

In addition to Thornton’s 26 points, Bluestone got seven points from Ivy Watson, four from Jenna Harris and two from Jade Banks.

The jayvee girls improved to 8-1 overall, 6-0 in the James River District.
