Bluestone jayvee volleyball wins one, loses two / September 29, 2021

The Bluestone jayvee girls volleyball team has compiled a 1-2 record in the last three matches. The team won on Monday against George Washington but lost earlier district outings with Central-Lunenburg and Randolph-Henry.

In the GW-Danville match, the girls delivered the win in two sets, 25-2 and 25-7.

Julie King had 15 serve aces for Bluestone. Amelia Whittington and Ashlyn Wilbourne contributed big-time in the win with digs, assists and kills.

Bluestone lost its Thursday match to Central Lunenburg in one of the most contested games the team has played this season. Scores were 22-25 and 25-27.

Julie King played well with one serve ace, seven digs, one assist, three kills and one block. The team as a whole did a great job, they just couldn’t pull out the win.

After the Tuesday loss to Randolph-Henry, the Baron coaches noted the time away from the court addressing COVID-19 safety cost the team. The jayvee girls are 3-2, 1-2 JRD as this week’s play happens.

“The layoff really hurt,” Oxendine said as the kids returned to the court for the R-H game.

Amelia Whittington had two aces, 10 digs, four assists and four kills. Ashlyn Wilbourne posted three aces, 11 digs, four assists and two kills. Jocelyn Ashworth had seven digs, King had one block, two kills and five digs. Alexis Wilkerson and Grace Castle combined for three digs.
