Bluestone jayvees lose

The Bluestone jayvee boys basketball team jumped on Nottoway early but couldn’t sustain the momentum and fell 46-39 Tuesday in Skipwith.

Bluestone led 12-5 at the end of the first quarter. Bluestone was led by Ernest Jones who had seven points in the first quarter. Victor Small rounded out the first period with a trey and a deuce.

Bluestone moved out to the 13-7 lead with 3:50 remaining in the second period. Nottoway continued to chip away at the score, but Bluestone was able to battle for the 19-16 halftime lead.

Bluestone’s E. Jones, Jaylen Crawley and Keevonta Jones each posted a basket in the second. Small had a point at the foul line.

Nottoway sank a three-pointer to start the third period and knot the game at 19-19. Regulation baskets by Bluestone’s Kisean Harris and Small, and a point at the foul stripe moved the Barons out to the 24-19 score.

Nottoway then went on a 7-4 run to knot the game at 28-28 entering the fourth period. Nottoway outpaced Bluestone 18-11 in the final period to take the 46-39 win.

Bluestone was led in the fourth by Small with five points, E. Jones with four and a K. Jones’ deuce.

On Friday night, the jayvee boys traveled to Goochland and lost to the Bulldogs 56-26. Bluestone has a record of 3-10 in the James River District and closes out the season this week with games against Buckingham and Cumberland.
