Bluestone jayvees suffer 49-47 loss to R-H / December 12, 2018

The Bluestone Barons jayvee basketball team had several opportunities to best Randolph-Henry last Tuesday in Skipwith but lost to the Statesmen 49-47.

Tray Powell paced Bluestone with 10-points. Powell’s teammates Kejuan Hester and Nic Abernathy posted eight-points each on the night.

Bluestone and R-H held each other close in the first period with the visitors outscoring the Barons 13-12 to end the first. Abernathy drained a trey and a deuce to lead the Barons in the period.

The second period is where R-H found some separation, knocking down 17-points in the period. R-H’s defense held Bluestone to nine-points in the second. R-H led at halftime 30-21.

The Barons made a solid push in the third, scoring 15 points while limiting R-H to 10 points. Bluestone was four points from the tie and the end of the third period down 40-36.

In the fourth period, Bluestone – though winning in point totals for the quarter at 15-9 – was simply out-hustled on a couple of key possessions that aided R-H in their win.

With the team’s Friday night loss to Prince Edward, the jayvee Barons are 0-2 in the James River District and 0-3 overall to begin the season. Bluestone plays Central Lunenburg on Friday in Victoria.
