Bluestone Middle girls win over Wyatt, improve to 3-2 in conference / January 17, 2018

Returning to the basketball court after a very long winter break, the Bluestone Middle Lady Trojans picked up right where the left off before Christmas, winning over Wyatt Middle School 36-14 last Thursday.

The win has the Lady Trojans (6-2, 3-2 SMSC) in second place in the Southside Middle School Conference. Lady Trojan head coach Crystal Chandler said she was happy with the way her team performed after cancelled practices due to the weather and such a long layoff from action.

“The girls looked really good last night coming off a three-week lay over,” Chandler said. “They played hard and executed plays.

“We are 3-2 in the conference and currently second in the conference according to SMSC records, with an overall record of 6-2. Next week we will match up with Nottoway on the road Wednesday night and finish the week with Lunenburg on Thursday at home for our annual Pink Night game at BMS.”

In the Wyatt game the Lady Trojans jumped on their visitors quickly. Bluestone posted 11 points in the frame while holding Wyatt to three points.

The second quarter was not as productive as the first for Bluestone, with the team scoring four points in the stanza. At the same time, Bluestone held Wyatt scoreless for the 15-0 halftime lead.

The Lady Trojans kept up the pressure on going into the third, knocking down 14 points. Wyatt had its best quarter in the third hitting for seven points.

Bluestone finished out the game with a seven-point fourth for the 36-14 final. The Trojans were led by Jalan Dailey’s 10 points; teammate MaKayla Mason added eight on the night.

Box Score:

Lady Trojans: M. Mason 8, J. Dailey 10, K. Hargrove 2, X. Tucker 6, C. Robertson 4, T. Dennis 4, M. Mangum 2.
