Bluestone one win short of .500 record

SoVaNow.com / May 03, 2017
The Bluestone varsity baseball team defeated Prince Edward Thursday, 7-1, in a road game to improve their James River district record to 4-5.

With at least eight games left on the regular season calendar, pulling back to within one game of .500 was a big step forward for the Barons. Postseason play has always been the goal for the coaches and players. It looks as though the goal may be accomplished.

Bluestone was scheduled to host Buckingham in a 5 p.m. match-up Tuesday.

In Thursday’s victory, the Barons collected nine hits, with two RBIs to seal the game. Bluestone was led by Aaron Baskerville’s three hits, and Larry Bullock scattered two hits.

The Barons posted three runs in the second inning, and one each in the fifth and sixth innings.

Ja’mier Smith scored two runs. Nick Lopez, Nathan Newcomb, Cameron Tucker, Baskerville and Bullock added a run each.

Bluestone’s Scott Nutter got the win on the mound. Nutter pitched six innings, allowing eight hits and one earned run.

Nutter struck out two Eagles and walked three. Lopez finished out the final inning from the circle.

Bluestone’s defense wasn’t too shabby, either, as PE had 10 hits in the game but left nine runners on base.
