The Bluestone varsity baseball team welcomed non-conference opponent George-Washington to Skipwith on Friday and saw a 12-6 third inning lead slip away for a 15-12 loss.

The defeat was the second of the season for the Barons. They dropped their JRD opener earlier in the week to Prince Edward, 10-0.

This matchup was tight throughout with each team holding the other scoreless in the first inning.

At the top of the second, GW’s leadoff batter hit a single and then stole second. GW’s next two batters loaded the bases.

Bluestone walked the first three runs home, and GW added three additional runs for a 6-0 lead midway through the second.

Bluestone came back up to the plate and quickly loaded the bases themselves. Behind some great swings and good base running, the Barons posted 10 runs in the frame to end the inning leading 10-6.

GW went scoreless in the third while Bluestone extended its lead to 12-6. Playing solid defense, the Barons looked on track for the win.

But GW still had some game left in them and put up four- runs in the fifth and finished out with five runs in the top of the seventh for the 15-12 win.

The Barons’ Jordan Hill, Joseph Walker, Chris Gregory and Josh Hite had two runs each in the game. Scott Nutter, D. Shearin, Cam Tucker and Langdon Allgood each posted a run.

Allgood had three RBIs, Nutter two and Walker and Tucker added one RBI apiece.

Allgood and Walker also had doubles in the game. Bluestone had seven batters reach via base-on-balls.

Walker and Nutter each had two hits in the game. Allgood and Hite had one apiece.

Hill, Allgood and Alex Csorba recorded steals against the GW Eagle defense.

Prince Edward 10, Bluestone 0

Bluestone opened its regular season with a 10-0 loss to James River District rival Prince Edward earlier in the week.

The Eagles scored two runs in the first, fourth and sixth innings. PE posted one in the third and three runs in the fifth inning.

Nutter and Walker pitched for the Barons with Walker taking the “L”.
