Bluestone succumbs to Highland Springs 61-34

SoVaNow.com / January 23, 2019

On Saturday Bluestone competed in an invitational tournament at Brunswick High School and came out on the losing end against the Springers of Highland Springs by a score of 61-34.

Bluestone varsity coach George Lancaster previously coached the Springers for over 37 seasons, garnering 704 wins and two VHSL state championships.

The Barons came out a little sluggish and it took Highland Springs about two seconds to jump all over them. Fast court play, intense rebounding and a choking defense had Bluestone down early in the game.

Bluestone didn’t get its first basket until 5:01 left in the first, making the score 10-2. By the 1:25 mark, Highland Springs owned a 20-5 lead and led at the end of one, 25-8.

The teams played to a 10-7 period in the second and the Springers led at the half, 35-15. Bluestone tried to rally in the third, but one could see the past three days of games catching up with the Barons.
