Bluestone takes third place in four-way match

SoVaNow.com / September 05, 2018

The Bluestone varsity golf team continued a rebuilding season in varsity competition last Tuesday at Independence Golf Club.

The Barons dropped games to Goochland which placed first in the match with a 167 and King William, in second posting a team total 173. The Barons bested Buckingham in the quad-match, 196-202, to take third place.

King William isn’t in the James River District, but is a Region 2A East member, the same level in which Bluestone competes. Barons’ coach David Allgood said he was glad of the experience to play against them.

“They are not in our district but in our region, so it was good to see competition we will see in the future,” said Allgood. “We played one of our better matches of the year.”

The win over Buckingham places Bluestone in seventh place out of the nine-team James River District. The Barons are 3-8-1 in the district and 3-9-1 overall.

Central Lunenburg at 14-0 and Randolph-Henry at 13-1 hold the two top spots, respectively. Goochland resides in third at 8-4 to open this week’s play.

Goochland’s Cole Pollard shot a 35 to earn medalist on the day. Bluestone’s low scorer in the match was Brady Platzke with a 45. Devin Farrah’s 48 would be the only other Bluestone score in the 40s.

The team is scheduled to play one match this week, on the road versus Nottoway and Prince Edward at The Manor Golf Club. Nottoway enters the week in fourth place in the JRD at 6-6-1; PE enters this week’s play at 0-10-0, No. 8, one spot behind Bluestone.

Team Scores:

(1) Goochland 167, (2) King William 173, (3) Bluestone 196, (4) Buckingham 202

The Barons closed out last week at Kinderton Country Club on Thursday against Cumberland and Randolph-Henry where they lost the tri-meet, with Cumberland besting the Barons by one stroke at 208-207. Randolph-Henry won the match posting a score of 165.
