Bluestone volleyball gets season-opening wins / September 01, 2021

Bluestone High School volleyball programs won on opening night with the varsity Barons going 3-0 and the jayvee team winning 2-0.

The Lady Barons hosted Tri-Rivers District member Brunswick High School in a non-district match.

Darlynn Oxendine and Randy Oxendine, coaches of the varsity and junior varsity teams said, “We had some fun. We are working to get better.”

The girls are scheduled to travel to Lawrenceville tomorrow for a rematch with Brunswick. The jayvee match starts at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity following afterwards.

Bluestone 3, Brunswick 0

The varsity girls used home court advantage and some solid play to win in three sets, 25-9, 25-13, and 25-12.

Emma Newcomb led Bluestone 10 with serve aces, 13 digs, 17 assists and nine kills for a triple-double. Grace Newcomb had a very good outing, pacing the team with 11 kills. She also posted seven serve aces and assists and six digs.

Skyla King hustled for 11 digs and teammate Elena Bailey had seven. Newcomer Brooke Conwell aided in the win with six aces and digs.

Lillie Puryear, Deonna Glass, Kailey Gill, and Cassidy Newcomb all added to the stat column.

The jayvee volleyball team won its match in two sets, 25-12 and 25-13.

Ashlyn Wilbourne led her teammates with 12 serve aces, five digs and three assists. Julie King delivered nine kills.
