Bluestone volleyball shows promise despite 0-2 start to season / August 30, 2017
The Bluestone volleyball team began its season last Tuesday by hosting Colonial Heights. It was an exciting match with Bluestone taking the first set.

Despite dropping the next three sets, the Lady Barons showed a lot of promise that will surely benefit them well in district competition.

On Aug. 24, the varsity volleyball team played Appomattox and came away with a lot of positive moments. April Newton and Erin Strider did a terrific job of passing against some very hard attacks. However, Bluestone lost the match to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Coach Darlynn Oxendine said after the match that she was pleased with what she saw, despite the outcome.

“We only made three serving errors,” Oxendine said. “Now we have to work on putting speed and topspin on the ball for aces. This experience will certainly help our girls in district play.”

Leading players were:
April Newton — 8 digs, 2 aces, 2 kills and an assist.
Tori Dainiel — 2 digs
Nicole Newton — 6 digs, 5 assists, 1 ace, and 1 kill
Madison Lort — 2 kills

Jayvee spikers 0-1 
in JRD play
On Aug. 23, the jayvees hosted Halifax to begin their season. It was a tough night but the team continues to learn and make progress.

Overall record is 0-1
Leading players are:
Emma Newcomb — 7 aces, 4 digs, 3 assist, and 6 kills.
Lilly Loftis — 6 receive serve, 2 digs, and 1 kill.
Annelise Bailey — 1 ace, 2 serve receive, and 4 digs.
