Carter gets hat trick as soccer starts / March 13, 2019

The Bluestone boys soccer team began regular season play Monday, defeating James River District opponent Randolph-Henry 4-0 in Skipwith.

Cooper Carter led Bluestone’s offense by scoring the hat-trick for three of the team’s four goals. Offense was scarce in the first half, with Carter posting the only goal before the break — that goal coming in the seventh minute off an assist from Chris Bagbey.

Bluestone’s defense was on point the entire game with R-H managing only one shot on goal in the first half.

In the second half at the eight-minute mark, Carter got his second goal with an assist by Xavier Sturdifen. Sturdifen would make the score 3-0 when he scored, unassisted, in the 10th minute of the match. Carter earned his first hat-trick of the season in the 15th minute with a nice shot for the 4-0 lead and eventual final score.

Bluestone head coach Thomas Wells was very pleased with the defensive effort: “(Our) defense was rock solid with only two shots allowed all game.”

Bluestone (1-0) returns to competition tonight when the Barons host their second district match of the season against Prince Edward.
