Clarksville Dixie offers alternative to season

SoVaNow.com / June 17, 2020
After postponing the start of the season for several weeks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Clarksville Dixie baseball and softball is officially canceling the summer campaign.

The Dixie organization met recently to reach a consensus in developing plans to move ahead with the season. But after discussions with the various stakeholders involved, it was ultimately decided to offer refunds or other options for those who had already paid to compete this year.

Refunds will be available on two days only, June 17 and June 20. In a Facebook post, the league explained what one has to do to receive their refund.

“The league has decided to give refunds for the spring season on Wednesday, June 17, from 5:30-7 p.m. and Saturday, June 20, from 10 a.m.-noon. If you would like a refund, you must come to Shaver Field one of those two days as there will not be any further refund opportunities. However, you may choose to roll-over your registration fees to next Spring or donate your registration fees to our Dixie Youth program,” the announcement stated.

The league though is offering an alternative to regular season play. No fees will be associated with playing and social distancing measures will be adhered to. The league will move forward with competition only if it has enough interested players.

“We are hoping to play in the next few weeks following all social distancing measures,” the announcement continued. “This will be a free program to anyone who wants to participate. Please expect a message from your coach regarding this information, and please let him/her know whether or not you will be participating when the time comes. This will be very important in whether or not offering the program will be feasible based on interest. We look forward to seeing as many as possible back on the field shortly.”
