Cole earns spot in girls state golf tournament

SoVaNow.com / October 24, 2013
Halifax County High School golfer Anna Carole Cole has qualified for state play.

Cole fired a round of 94 Monday at Greens Folly and nabbed one of two spots for the upcoming Virginia High School League girls state golf tournament.

Cole finished second in a zone state qualifier held at Greens Folly.

Tunstall’s Katie Pritchett fired a round of 81, winning the event and seizing the other berth for the state.

The state tournament will be played Monday and Tuesday at Jefferson Lakeside CC in Richmond.

Lauren Spencer had a round of 98 and finished fourth in the qualifier. She did not make the cut - only the top two advanced - but picked up more experience.

Macey Mills of Bluestone finished third with a 96.

Rustburg also sent four golfers, all of whom finished in the 100s.

Comet golf coach David Graham said he’s very proud of Cole. “It was very competitive for that second spot (in the state). She grinded it out,” said Graham.

“I liked the way (Cole) hung in there, from beginning to end,” said Graham.
