Comet boys, girls, finish second to Franklin County in district track meet / May 14, 2018
The Halifax County High School varsity boys and girls track teams posted solid results at Saturday’s Piedmont District meet at the Tisha Waller track in South Boston.

Halifax’s Otis Slayton earned the most individual points on the boys’ side with 36.

Halifax had multiple district champions and the Comets finished second to a deeper Franklin County team.

“Great meet with lots of heat. Both the girls’ and boys’ team managed to beat the heat, but with no distance runners lost out to Franklin County. Halifax athletes did a great job and I am extremely proud of them!” said Comet track coach Mary Douglas.

“Lack of distance runners has plagued the team for years, but sprinters and field event athletes have always put in a good showing. Our goal now is to continue to drop the times in running events and increase the distance in the jumps and throws. Of course we wanted to win, but I am not disappointed in the outcomes. We are now aiming to be competitive in the regional and state competitions,” said Douglas.
