Comet boys track finish 17th in state, Slayton third in long jump

Halifax County High School boys’ track finished 17th out of 41 teams in the state Class 5 outdoor competition in Newport News with 14.50 points.

L.C. Bird picked up the state title with 74 points.

Herbert Brooks took fourth in the state in the discus, with a throw of 157.07.

Otis Slayton took third in the long jump with an effort of 22-08.00.

Slayton was also seventh in the triple with an effort of 45.11.25.

Jaden Waller finished 11th in the high jump, leaping 6 feet.

On the girls’ side, Kmayia Moore finished 17th in the shot put with a toss of 30.9-3/4.

Finishers in the top eight receive points at the state meet, held Friday and Saturday at Todd Stadium in Newport News.
