Comet boys track finishes 17th in state / June 02, 2019

HCHS boys track finished 17th out of 41 teams in state Class 5 outdoor track and field competition in Newport News.

The Comets collected 14.50 points.

L.C. Bird emerged as the state champions, finishing with 74 points.

Recapping the individual highlights for the Comet track team:

Herbert Brooks, headed to VMI, took fourth in the state in the discus, with a throw of 157.07.

Otis Slayton took third in the long jump with an effort of 22-08.00.

Slayton was also seventh in the triple with an effort of 45.11.25.

Jaden Waller finished 11th in the high jump, leaping 6 feet.

On the girls’ side, Kmayia Moore finished 17th in the shot put with a toss of 30.9-3/4.

Finishers in the top eight receive points at the state meet, held Friday and Saturday at Todd Stadium in Newport News.
