Comet golf finishes fourth in district match / September 09, 2021

The Halifax County High School golf team finished fourth on Tuesday during a Piedmont District match held at Olde Mill Golf Club.

JD Cunningham paced his team with a 79. Cunningham also shared medalist honors with Bassett’s Austin Ray in the match as the only other golfer to shoot in the 70s.

Cunningham’s closest teammate was Will Long, with an 18-hole round of 89.

Lucas Newton at 90 and Joe Roberts shooting 91 rounded out the top-four players for the Comets, who had a team score of 349. Jack Morgan at 95 and Zac Rhodes’ 97 completed the six-person Comet team.

The course would play tough for all the teams on the day. Magna Vista took first with a 340. Bassett and Patrick County each had 343.

The Comets return to action Sept. 14 when they travel to Oak Hills Golf Course for a 2 p.m. tee time.
