Comet golf improves to 5-0 in district action

SoVaNow.com / September 02, 2021

When two of your top-four golfers shot one-over par 73’s in your match it’s a good chance you’ll win.

The Halifax County High School golf team did just that on Monday with JD Cunningham and Lucas Newton each shooting 73 and sharing medalist honors in the match.

Teammates Will Long and Jack Morgan carded 79 and 84, respectively, to round out the top-four golfers totaling 309. Hayden Platzke shot an 87.

The Comets improved to 5-0 in the Piedmont District win played at Forest Park Golf Club in Martinsville.

Magna Vista with 316, Bassett at 328, Patrick County 335, and Tunstall with 395 were second through fifth place.

The Comets are scheduled to be back on the course Tuesday, Sept. 7.

The team travels to Laurel Fork with a 2 p.m. tee time at Olde Mill Golf Resort.
