Comet golf opens today at Heritage Invitational / August 05, 2019
The Halifax County High School varsity golf team begins today, with action at the Heritage Invitational in Lynchburg.

Five Comets are making the trip, Will Gasperini, Will Abdi, Ryan Corona, Harrison Culpepper and Jackson Lloyd.

First year coach David Day said, “Everybody is progressing well. I feel good about our chances there.”

Comet golf has taken positive steps forward in recent seasons. Day said he feels very good about the new campaign.

He sees potential in the ninth and tenth grade classes, and there are very promising middle school players.

Comet “golf is in great shape right now. The potential is unlimited,” said Day.

Halifax has made the state tournament three seasons in a row. Halifax is dropping back to Class 4 this year, and Day is wary of the competition in this level.

“We’re going to have to get a little better before we make it back to the state,” he said.

“We’re doing really well. We’ve had major improvement (in practice) from a week ago to today,” said Day.

“I feel pretty good about our chances,” said Day.
