Comet spikers get road win over Martinsville / October 07, 2021

Halifax County High School varsity volleyball picked up the road win over Martinsville Tuesday, 3-1.

The Comets had a double-header scheduled with Martinsville, but a power failure cancelled the second match in progress with Halifax holding the lead.

The Comets improved to 5-7.

The Comets dropped the first set, 25-19, but would come back to win the next three sets, 25-10, 25-12 and 25-9.

All of Halifax’s middle hitters were able to get good playing time at the net, Coach Sunshine Martin said.

The win was powered by some nice performances by Jadyn Harlow, Trinity Martin and Kate Jackson. Emma Payne had nine service points in the second set and 12 assists.

“Our service was much better in both matches,” Martin said. “I hope that will continue throughout the season.

“Jadyn Harlow found her serve by the end of the second match,” Martin said. “She has a very powerful serve that needs to stay on point. She is tough when she’s on. Trinity was on point at the net with nine kills in the first match. Kate Jackson had some time setting last night as well. She did well and will continue to improve.”

Up next for the Comets are back-to-back home matches against Patrick County last night and Tunstall tonight.
