Comet swimmers claim district titles

SoVaNow.com / February 05, 2018
Halifax County High School swimming has claimed both the girls and boys team titles in the Piedmont District.

The district championships were held Wednesday at Hargrave.

The girls had 121 points, with Franklin County collecting 87 for second place. Bassett (86), GW (74), Magna Vista (66) and Martinsville (eight) trailed the field in girls action.

The boys had 118 points, trailed by GW (101), Franklin (76), Bassett (74), Martinsville (59) and Magna Vista (25).

“We had to swim our best times of the year. Every team there seemed to be swimming better. We had to compete as a team and pull in high total points in every event. I was proud of the way we competed and came together as a team to cheer each other on. It wasn’t one person for themselves, we were one team working towards a title,” said coach Shawn Torian.
