Comet swimmers top Appomattox

The Halifax County High School girls and boys swim teams had successful meets at home Tuesday against Appomattox.

The girls defeated Appomattox, 54-26. The Comet boys also won, 57-21.

“We are swimming hard and dropping times. Mostly every swimmer dropped time, some more than others. We are looking forward to going to Franklin Co. and swimming against some really good competition. This will be our first true test as a team, this will let us know how good we really are,” said Comet coach Shawn Torian.

The 200 meter medley relay boys team won in 2:14.80. This squad included Shea Carey, John Conner, Nick Carey and Grant Nichols.

The girls 200 meter medley relay team also won in 2:33.48. This group includes Izzie Rosche, Lilian Zhang, Maci Henderson and Keeley Nelson.

Jackson Dunavant and Will Abdi finished second (2:57.67) and fourth in the boys 200 SC meter free. Zhang and Jessica Watts were second (3:05.78) and third in the girls 200 meter free.

Nick Carey won the boys 200 meter IM (2:37.88). I. Rosche (3:17.15) and Henderson were 1-2 in the girls 200 meter IM.

S. Carey (28.19) and G. Nichols were one-two in the boys 50 free. K. Nelson (32.10) and Kimberly Cole placed 2-3 in the girls 50 meter free.

N. Carey won the boys 100 meter butterfly in 1:04.23. S. Carey (1:04.65) and Nichols finished first and third, respectively, in the boys 100 meter free. Nelson and M. Henderson were two-three in the women’s 100 meter free, with the top Comet time set at 1:15.12.

Perkins (6:29.32) and Abdi took the top two spots in the boys’ 400 meter free.

Grace Abdi won the 400 meter free in 6:58.34.

The boys’ A relay team won the 200 meter free relay in 1:57.76, with the B relay team third.

The girls’ A relay team won the 200 meter free in 2:17.63, with the B team second.

Dunavant won the boys 100 meter back in 1:33.57. Z. Perkins was second. I. Rosche won the 100 meter back for the girls in 1:29.74.

Jake Carr won the boys 100 meter breast in 1:32.19.

Zhang took second in the girls 100 meter breast in 1:43.15, with Watts third.

The boys A relay team took second in the 400 meter free relay in 5.35.20, with the girls A team winning the same event in 5:29.50.
