Comet track tested against elite field

High school athletes from Virginia, North Carolina, West Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Maryland converged on Liberty University in Lynchburg to take part in the Liberty Christmas Invitational held this past Saturday.

The Comets’ Thomas Lee stood out by placing in the Top 10 among elite high school competition.

Lee tied for ninth in the boys long jump with a leap of 19-07.50 feet.

It was Halifax’s best showing in the invitational, with the Comets also competing in sprint, jumping and throwing events for boys and girls.

Alexis Hubbard was 15th in the girls long jump with a distance of 15-08.75 feet. J’Quaycia Brown with 25th with a leap of 15-03 feet. The girls long jump drew 74 competitors.

Other notable Comet finishes include Will van Opstal in the boys long jump (26th place), Thomas Lee in the boys shot put (23rd) and 55 meter dash (34th), J’Quaycia Brown in the girls triple jump (34th), Alexis Hubbard in the 300 meter dash (48th) and Alicia Mills in the girls 55 meter hurdles (49th).
