Sports Comet varsity pick up senior night volleyball win
SoVaNow.com / March 29, 2021
The Halifax County High School varsity volleyball team knocked out GW-Danville on senior night Thursday in straight sets, 25-6, 25-8, and 25-14. Prior to the match the Comets recognized seniors Amanda Duffer, Kirsten Wellons and Bailey Bowen. In the 25-6 set-one win Halifax was hot out the gate. Duffer, serving, rattled off 10 straight points for the Comets. Trinity Martin added points 13-20 and this set was done; teammate Kylie Satterfield got the balance of the scores. In set two GW came out more aggressively and jumped the early lead. But it didn’t take long for the Comets to pull ahead and dominate in the 25-8 win. The second set was paced by Sarah Watts who gained the sixth point for Halifax and didn’t let up until she had run the Comets points to 24. The final set was more balanced — at least on the scoreboard — with Halifax’s coach Sunshine Martin continuing to tryout different lineups as post season play approaches. Madison Barnes, Tessy Henderson, Wellons, Duffer, and Watts each had decent play in the final set. Martin said she was happy for her seniors and the team picking up another win. “Great win for senior night,” Martin said. “All three seniors were able to play all the way around tonight. Lots of players were able to get involved and able to try some different line ups.” The girls travel to Bassett High School on Thursday for another Piedmont District match. Individual Stats: Bailey Bowen 2K; Amanda Duffer 4K, 5SA; Kirsten Wellons 5K, Trinity Martin 2K, 4SA; Sarah watts 1K, 6A, 9SA; Madison Barnes 1K, 7A; Kylie Satterfield 3SA. News & Record
