Comet wrestlers enjoy positive start to season / December 04, 2017
The Halifax County High School wrestling team enjoyed a positive start to its season Saturday in the Carroll County Invitational.

Finishes by weight class: 106. Minjune Kim (1-1) third place; 132. Jonathan Thornhill (0-2); 138 Shon Ballou (3-0) first place; 138 Preston McGhee (2-2); 145 Tyler Hudson (1-1) second place; 152 Tyler Mabe (2-0) first place; 285 Isiah Graves (0-2)

“This was one of our better beginning of the year individual tourneys that we have had in a while. To have four wrestlers podium out of seven that participated was a solid day. And the wrestlers that did not place showed some positives as well,” said coach David Riddle.

“We knew that our three multi-year veterans were going to be counted on to lead the team effort, and they didn’t disappoint today. Ballou and Mabe had tremendous matches through their brackets to come in first, and Hudson wrestled strong as well. We expect that to continue on for the season for all three,” said Riddle.

“We had some absences due to SATs and injury today. We hope to have that out of the way going into this week and continue to push forward both individually and as a team,” said Riddle.
