Halifax County High School wrestling earned two home dual meet wins, over Martinsville and GW Wednesday. The Comets fell to Tunstall.

“As a team, this was our best night of the season. We have come close all year but just fallen short of that first dual win, so to come out at home and get two of them and come close in the final match was huge for us as a group,” said coach David Riddle.

“The Martinsville match came down to the wire, we were able to win after going through the refs criteria after a 30-30 tie. We tell the guys all the time to wrestle whistle to whistle and to keep pushing and that got us the win there. Driggs and Zyon both came up with big pins for us there to get the team win.

“We have struggled a little against GW in previous matches, so it was big to finally get a win against them. Vicks, Driggs, and Jacob were all able to pick up pins to seal the deal there.

“Against Tunstall we were close but just came up short. Both sides gave up a few forfeits and we came up just short in a couple of the contested matches that could have gone either way. Driggs had yet another pin to go 3-0 in contested matches. His hard work and dedication is paying off,” said Riddle.

“We finally got that first team win out of the way after seeing a good bit of individual success. You could see it in the faces on the team that it was a big moral boost. Coach Cole and Coach Harris and myself have told them all season that it was going to happen if they keep putting in the work. This was a big night for Blue Comets Wrestling,” said Riddle.
