Comet wrestlers have individual success / January 27, 2020
Halifax County High School wrestling dropped four matches Saturday in the Heritage Duals.

The Comets fell to GW 25-24, LCA 60-12, E.C. Glass 46-18 and Heritage 60-11.

“Teamwise we struggled with giving up forfeits at weight classes where we didn’t have wrestlers, and we knew that going in. A lot of the teams here had fuller squads than we have seen at other duals,” said Comet coach David Riddle.

“But on the individual side we saw some solid success. Driggs was able to go undefeated, which makes him two-for-two on undefeated on dual tourneys for the year. He is having a great year and not making mistakes that cost him the close ones last year.

“Saunders and Wilson were able to come out with wins in all but one mat, and wrestled close in both of those. We are hoping to see that momentum carry over into the postseason.

“We head into the district tournament next weekend and hope to have success like we did their last year and carry that over to regionals and then advance people to state. The six wrestlers that we are carrying at this point are working hard in the room and we are looking to see that work pay off in the tourneys,” said Riddle.

Comets by weight class:

120 - Colin Saunders 3-1

138 - J.T. Francis 0-4

145 - Alex Driggs 4-0

160 - Leo Walter 0-4

170 - Jacob Davis 1-3

285 - Zyon Wilson 3-1

Team scores:

GW 25 HC 24

LCA 60 HC 12

EC Glass 46 HC 18

Heritage 60 HC 11
