Comets battle to district win / August 22, 2019
The Halifax County High School varsity golf team battled through some inconsistent moments, but secured its second Piedmont District match Monday at Greens Folly, edging Magna Vista, 319-323.

The Comets have a 28-shot lead over Magna Vista following two rounds.

“We struggled a little, but held our composure to come away with another Piedmont District win.

“Willoughby Gasperini and Will Abdi had a couple of solid rounds,” said Comet coach David Day.

“Harrison Culpepper and Ryan Corona continue to improve and provided good scores.

“Joseph Wilson and Will Long had a few struggles but played well for their first varsity match,” said Day.

Magna Vista’s Will Gardner and Tunstall’s Dylan Martin deadlocked for medalist honors with 76.

Gasperini and Abdi each shot 78. Culpepper had an 81.

Corona carded an 82. Long (90) and Wilson (96) performed well, given their inexperience at this level.

Patrick County (350), Tunstall (357) and GW-Danville (361) trailed the field.
