Comets end regular season with 67-61 victory over Magna Vista

The Halifax County High School varsity boys basketball team edged Magna Vista 67-61 in a road win on Tuesday night.

Halifax finished the regular season 17-3-1, 9-2-1 Piedmont District. The tie comes off of a scheduled game with Patrick County last Friday that was postponed and then cancelled due to the weather conditions over this past weekend.

Jhamad Lawson led the Comets with 17 points. Teammates Kameron Roberts and Kevon Ferrell joined Lawson in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Halifax jumped out to a 15-8 lead to end the first period. Lawson had six points in the opening frame.

The Comets kept the offensive pressure on in the second period posting 17 but the Warriors would also get on point in the second winning the frame with 18.

Halifax was up 32-26 at halftime. Lawson had eight points in the half, Roberts seven and Ferrell with six.

MV edged out Halifax in the third period 16-12. The Comets went to the final period leading 46-42.

Each team lit up the nets in the fourth with Halifax taking the frame 21-19 for the 67-61 victory. Lawson had nine second-half points.

The Comets begin Piedmont District tournament play on Friday before moving on to Regional competition.
