“We really didn’t have the type of tournament that we expected. We have finished second or third over the past few seasons here, and were just a couple of points away from first last season,” said coach David Riddle.

“We started out sluggish on Friday, and as a team just never really recovered. I don’t know if it was a product of the pro-set format or the fact that we were playing our third and fourth days of the week, but regardless our performance was not up to par on what it has been in some of our recent matches,” said Riddle.

In earlier action, Franklin County blanked the Comets 9-0, in WVD action.

1. Alec Crawford d. Ralph Tuck (HC) 7-6 (7--5), 6-1; 2. Josh Oliver d. Jonathon Strader (HC) 6-1, 7-6; 3. Corey Crawford d. Tayler Tepper (HC) 6-2, 6-4; 4. Colby Arrington d. Taylor Elliott (HC) 2-6, 7-6 (7-3), (10-4); 5. Ron Taylor d. Michael Good (HC) 6-2, 6-2; 6. David Philpott d. Gannon Griffin (HC) 6-0, 6-4. Here are the doubles: 1. A.Crawford/Oliver d. Tuck/Strader (HC) 6-1, 2-6, (10-3); 2. C. Crawford/Arrington d. Tepper/Elliott (HC) 6-4, 6-1; 3. Taylor/Philpott d. Good/Griffin (HC) 6-0, 6-3. HCHS and Franklin County played two exhibitions, with the Comets losing both: Layne Dillion d. Michael Jackson (HC) 10-4 and R.J. Underwood d. Roger Smith (HC) 10-3.

“It’s not often that you can say too many positive things in a 9-0 loss, but this was honestly one of the best matches that we have played as a team all seson. All of the matches were contested strongly. We just let some opportunities slip away. If you look at the scores though, several points here and there could have easily made this on of the typical 5-4 type matches we usually have against FC,” said coach Riddle.

HCHS dropped to 2-6, 0-4 in the district.
