The Halifax County High School varsity volleyball team defeated Patrick County 3-0 last Wednesday before losing to Tunstall 3-0 on Thursday.

The Comets are now 6-8, 3-5 Piedmont District.

Halifax picked up the win over Patrick 25-17, 25-14 and 25-18.

Sarah Watts had 10 service points, Trinity Martin nine, Shamya Hankins seven, Madison Barnes six and Jadyn Harlow posted five.

Emma Payne added 13 assists. Kylie Satterfield notched out 15 digs.

“Tonight we were firing on all cylinders,” Coach Sunshine Martin said. “Setters were spot on. Passes were on point with defense and our hitters were fired up. I’ve not seen the girls play this well all year.

“As a coach I would ultimately love zero service errors but realistically they are going to happen. We kept ours at least even with or less than Patrick and our serves that were in were quality serves.

“The girls performed tonight. They had a mission from the start.”

Stats vs. PC: Sarah Watts 4K, AS, 1SA; Trinity Martin 1SA, 11K, 5D; Shamya Hankins 3K, 1D; Madison Barnes 2SA, 7D, 2K; Arissa Conner 5D; Katie Reaves 2D; Emma Payne 13AS, 4D; Jadyn Harlow 3SA; Tessy Henderson 5K, 1B, 2D; Kylie Satterfield 2K, 15D, 1AS.

Halifax 0, Tunstall 3

Scores in this match were 20-25, 25-17, and 26-24 with the Comets taking the loss.

Martin said the game was frustrating to watch and play at times. Halifax has worked hard on raising their aggressiveness at the net in recent weeks and the work has paid off with an increase in team blocks.

During this match net play was called closely resulting in the Comets surrendering possession and possible points throughout the evening.

“Our sets were not as polished as they were the night before,” Martin said. “More frustrating than anything were the net calls we had.

“We still had players with big nights. Trinity Martin had 13 kills, Kylie Satterfield had 15 digs and Arissa Conner had 10 digs. We managed to get six blocks with Tessy Henderson having four of them.

“We will have to pull it back together quickly as we play Franklin County at home Monday.”

Stats vs. Tunstall: Sarah Watts 2SA, 4K, 5AS; Trinity Martin 13K, 1SA, 1B, 6D; Shamya Hankins 1K, 1B, 7D; Madison Barnes 2K, 4D; Arissa Conner 10D; Emma Payne 14AS, 2D; Kylie Satterfield 15D; Tessy Henderson 4B, 1K; Kate Jackson 1AS; Katie Reaves 2D.
