Comets pick up pair of thirds in district cross country meet

SoVaNow.com / October 12, 2017
Halifax County High School cross country posted two third place finishes in the seventh regular season meet of the season Tuesday at the Smith River Complex.

Franklin County won the boys’ meet with 21 points, followed by Bassett with 57 and Halifax with 100. Franklin County also won the girls side with 29 points, followed by Bassett, 38, and Halifax, 84.

Halifax’s Jax Bosiger was fifth for the boys, with 19:59. Josh Dawson had a solid run, with a time of 21:54. Carlton Redd (22:16); Grant Nichols (22:26); Ethan Blanks (23:39); Tyler Hudson (23:44); Trevor Riddle (24:21); Ethan Martin (24:50); Jacob Crews (25:13); and Ben Irby (25:15) had runs under 26 minutes for the Comets.

Abbie Casen was 12th for the girls with a time of 28.09, followed by Tyran Murray (29:04); Janae Hansen (29:40); Jessica Watts (30;02); Kayla Waller (31:10) and Maci Henderson (31:11).

“Today was probably one of the most humid races we have had all year. It was a slow race because of that.

“But we had some solid efforts. Jax was fifth and was around a minute from the top spot. And Abbie came close to a top 10 finish and had a good run as well. But it was a great effort. We are dealing with a few nagging injuries that we hope to heal up over the next two weeks as we prepare for hosting Districts and moving forward to Regionals the next week,” said coach David Riddle.
