Comets qualify seven for Region 5A track / May 18, 2017
Halifax County High School boys and girls track have a group of seven individuals who have qualified for the Region 5A north outdoor championships.

Otis Slayton has qualified for the region in the 100 meter in 11.24.

Lawson Mayfield also qualified in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.40. Mayfield also qualified in the 200 meter dash in 22.94.

Kenneth Davis has qualified for the region in the 300 meter hurdles in 41.72. Herbert Brooks qualified in the discus with a throw of 120-7.5.

Dexter Dixon qualified in the high jump in 6-0. Slayton qualified in the long jump in 19-8.75.

Three Comets qualified in the boys long jump; Dixon (44-0.75); Malique Winbush (44-1); and Slayton (42-5).

In girls action, Christia Wood qualified in the 100 meter hurdles in 17.16.

CONFERENCE 16 UPDATE: The Comet girls finished sixth in the conference meet, with 12 points. Albemarle dominated the girls meet, collecting 173 points.

The Comet boys tied PH-Roanoke for fifth with 52 points. Atlee won the boys crown with 210.

C. Wood took fourth in the long jump in 15-00.50. Slayton took fourth in the boys long jump with a leap of 19-08.75, while Winbush was fifth. C. Wood was fifth in the girls triple in 31-00.50.

Slayton won the conference crown in the boys triple in 41-02.50, with Dixon fourth in 38-11.

H. Brooks was fifth in the boys shot with a throw of 37-06.

Brooks was also fourth in the discus with an effort of 116-01.

Wood placed fourth in the girls 100 meter hurdles in 17.24. L. Mayfield placed third in the boys 110 meter hurdles in 15.58. Slayton was fourth in the 100 meter run in 11.62.

Halifax was fifth in the girls 4x100 meter relay in 54.43, while the Comets were fifth in the same boys event in 45.89.

K. Davis placed third in the boys 300 meter hurdles in 41.82.

Mayfield was third in the boys 200 meter dash in 22.94.

The Comet girls and boys both placed fifth in the 4x400 meter relay.
