Comets win first golf match of season

The Halifax County High School golf team opened its season with a win Tuesday, scoring with a score of 330 at Green’s Folly Golf Course. This was the first round of golf since the team competed in the 2019 Region 4 golf tournament.

JD Cunningham led the Comets with a 78. Jackson Newton added an 80. Jaxon Lloyd and Petron Wallace each shot 86.

Magna Vista was second at 336. Patrick County was third with a 343.

Medalists in the match were Magna Vista’s Patrick McCrickard and Patrick’s Wesley Roberson each shooting 77.

GW-Danville was fourth at 385; Tunstall was fifth with 392. Bassett only had three golfers participating.

Halifax is at Danville Country Club on Monday for another multiple-school Piedmont District round.
